Spanning tree problem - HP 1920 24G-POE

$

Hi all,

Hope you can help! We have one HP 1920 connected to a Dell Sonicwall TZ 300 on HP port 1. HP port 2 to connected to a Cisco switch (external network provider).

The external network provider has advised us to disable STP on our HP switch. This is the log they provided us with:-

Jul 19 12:46:38.940 BST: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_BPDUGUARD: Received BPDU on port Fa0/10 with BPDU Guard enabled. Disabling port.

Jul 19 12:46:38.940 BST: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: bpduguard error detected on Fa0/10, putting Fa0/10 in err-disable state

Jul 19 12:47:38.960 BST: %PM-4-ERR_RECOVER: Attempting to recover from bpduguard err-disable state on Fa0/10

Spanning tree needs to be turned off.

When our switches detect BPDUs it switches off for a short period before recovering automatically– it will then await the next BPDU.

These are being detected on your router’s LAN port (for the wireless bridge) not your WAN port (for the broadband).

We have turned off STP globally but yet the port still gets disabled on their switch. We are not sure if this is caused by the Sonicwall either.

The current config on the HP switch is - STP off globally, BPDU off globally, No Loop Protection.

Please help. Thanks

hpe1920 series do not allow Multipoint services trough trunks.

Hi,

i have 3 swicthes, they are in terconnected trough trunks.

All traffic runs fine only my multipoint services (windows multipoint 2012 servers) are not running trough the trunking ports. Only the switch where the multipoint server is connected to allow the services to the zero clients on his ports. But on the other switches there the zero clients gets an IP address but after that they won't connect to the Multipoint server.

Any idea why and what is blocking the traffic? And what i can do about this?

Thank you.

Loosing BAGG When assigning New VLAN 5900AF

Hello,

I'am facing a very strange issue.
I have 2 IRF Stacks based on 2 paris of 5900AF Switchs.
Theses stacks are used for theVMware Datacenter connectivity.
To connect to my Backbone Switches i have created a BAGG composed of 4 ports.
Everything is working as needed but when i add a new VLAN in the Switch i loose the connectivity of the BAGG.

To reestablish the connectivity i have to unplugg all the BAGG cables ans reconnect them.
The remote Backbone Switch is a single HP Procurve 2910al.

How can you explain this behavior?
It seems to happen only when i assign an IP to the VLAN.

Thanks for your help.

1920S Switch, no Auto Voice VLAN after port was TRK member

On two switches 1920S, P/N: JL386A, where after using 2 ports on each switch as TRK and then disabled the TRK and enable again the ports as user ports with the Auto Voice VLAN enabled, the phones don't get the voice VLAN auto, I must manually tag the VLAN on the port and set it manuall on the phone.

I know that factory reseting the switch will probably solve the problem, but the switch is in production and I can do it now. Any ideas that what I was missing to disable after disabling the TRK? Thanks.

Problem with internet time on clients with HP 1820-48G switch

Hey folks.

After replacing my Procurve 1810-24G with an OfficeConnect 1820-48G I lost the ability to get the correct time for all of my windows clients.

I tried a lot but could not get it to work. The switch itself gets the time without issues. If I change connectivity to wifi on the client I can get the correct time from any time server from the internet. When connecting it via cable (switch) it will not work at all. I just get a timeout when trying to synchronize time.

Any Idea what to change to get it to work again? It worked on the old Procurve though, so it must be something with the new one.

HPE OfficeConnect 1920: was R1116 rebuilt and is it now newer than R1117?

Strange, two days ago (August, 29th) I received the usual Routine Alert e-Mail about HPE OfficeConnect 1920 Switch Series saying that "A new software update is now available"...I expected to see a reference about the availability of the new R1118 (or the like) just after - what I thought was - the latest available and published R1117...but the Routine Alert said that R1116 was available (R1116 was already available, exactly...it is a previous version).Screenshot_2017-09-04_16-55-47.png

Pretty strange...isn't it?

Now, looking at support site, release R1117 is clearly older than the re-proposed R1116 (see Build dates: 14 July versus 17 August).

What happened?

Switches with CLI access

  • HI,

Can anyone tell me if any of the switches below have telnet access to the CLI (_cmdline-mode on)?
  • 1950 48G 2SFP+ 2XGT PoE+ (370W)    - JG963A
  • 1920S 48G 4SFP PPoE+ 370W - JL386A
  • 1850 48G 4XGT PoE+(370W) - JL173A
  • 1820 48G PoE+ (370W) - J9984A

According to the documentation, management is only via the web, but I do not want to believe that HP removed access to CLI.

Hello.

I know it's probably the case here. But did anyone find a solution how to reduce the noise of the HPE 1920-48G - JG927A switches?

Did not anyone try to disconnect the fan? (If applicable, due to the warranty)

802.1x on switch 3Com Officeconnect managed gigabit switch not working with NPS Windows Server 2012

Hi,

i have a problem with switch 3com officeconnect gigabit switch 8 port when i want to use 802.1x feature.

i have configured windows server 2012 as a radius server.

and then i configured 3com switch with

1. enabled 802.1x and set radius server and secret key

2. on interface i set auto for enable 802.1x authentication

but, when i tried to authenticate. it always failed, when i check on event viewer server,

my server didn't received any request from radius client ( switch 3 com)

and then i tried this server with another switch from different vendor.

it's working.

so i want to ask whether 3com officeconnect can support 802.1x?

if it support, what configuration is required for activate 802.1x either on switch and server.

Thank you

802.1X on HPE 1950

I'm trying to set up 802.1X on HPE 1950 (JG961A), but it's not working. I tried to set up 802.1X on the HPE 1950 according to pages 122-124 of the user guide (http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=7399488&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c04657809).

I set up a radius profile with accounting for our existing radius server (Windows Server 2012). I created an ISP domain for LAN access called lan and configured it to use the radius profile for authentication, authorization, and accounting. I enabled 802.1X and configured it for MAC-based control on one interface (GE1/0/2) for testing. The lan ISP domain is set as the mandatory domain for the port.

When I set 802.1X on GE1/0/2 to Automatic, I cannot get LAN access. The policy on the radius server allows Windows credentials and/or machine-based certificate for testing, but I don't get prompted for any form of authentication. The computer that I am using for testing has the appropriate certificate installed. The HPE 1950 is configured as a client with the correct IP address on the radius server.

The radius logs on the radius server do not show any events regarding the HPE 1950 switch or 802.1X authentication. I suspect that the authentication request is not being forwarded to the radius server properly and that the request eventually times out.

Does anyone know what is wrong?

A sanitized version of the switch config is below.

HPE OfficeConnect Switch 1920S 24G Configuration

Hi there,

We've recently purchased 1920S as core switch on our remote site. Previously we're using a firewall appliance to configure all vlans and routing but due to the changes of Network Infra, we moved to an SD-WAN solution.

So now, we're deploying layer3 switches to configure vlans and local routings.

Unfortunately, my knowledge in networking is not that strong. I have to search reference online just to configure vlans, routing and trunking on this switch.

I couldn't find any online reference with regards to configuring 1920s. All I can find is 1910/1920 reference which has a different web interface than 1920s.

Can someone please provide a correct reference for 1920s on configuring vlans, static routing and trunking.

TIA,

pcjm

HPE OfficeConnect 1920S Configuration Novice

Hello all,

OK, so I'm a bit of an educated novice.  I'm used to the ComWare version of configuration, but am having difficulty configuring this switch (web interface only, JL381A).  I need to have the primary VLAN (1) with IP of 172.10.0.x, and a Voice VLAN (10) of 172.16.10.x.  I also need DHCP relay for VLAN 10 to point to a VLAN 10 address, and I need the switch to have an IP on each VLAN.  I also need a trunk connection to carry ALL VLANs (not just these 2).  Can anyone assist?  I've tried several configs and failed, and the web interface, being different from the ComWare, and no CLI is driving me a bit bonkers.

Thanks in advance!

Cryptic error message HP V1810-48G

Every few months I receive error messages through syslog from one of our three switches (firmware PK 1.34) like this:

[-2131330512]: hal_misc.c(96) 1523 %% Jump to NULL! Interrupt: 0x00000000  vector: 0x00000098  cause: 0x00000000  status: 0x00000000

So far I see not a real impact..

Can anyone say anything more about these errors?

OC20 Management & Features

Hi,

we recently received information about the new APs for small environments HPE OfficeConnect 20.

The product sheets are looking promising for very small customers with up to 8 APs. But there are a few things, that are missing. I hope someone here can help me clarify them.

Are the APs able to use WPA2-Enterprise / 802.1X Authentication?
Doe the APs have a web management? I can only read about an app to use locally. The problem is, that we rarely are at our customers in person, when a problem in the wifi appears or when a change is needed.

Thanks!

I have several ProCurve 1810G-24 switches I want to link via fiber. with GBIC's inststalled each port (23 or 24) communicates with the other switch. As soon as I make either port part of a trunk is stops communicating. Is there a setting I am missing? I can make trunks with other ports but not the fiber ports.

Thanks

HP 1920 - 8G-PoE Radius Authentication Web limitations

Hello,

have lots of 1920-8G-PoE  switch and I want to login these switches with my Windows 2016 NPS server. I can login many other switches which contain 2626, 2650, 2620, 2610, 5300 series, 5400 series, A5700, A7500 series with my NPS server.  I manage them without any problem and I use ssh for login these switches. HP 1920 series have some ssh limitations so I have to login with web interface. When I configure AAA and Radius options of these switches like the others, I see only Network --> diagnostic tools menu and its IPv4 Ping, IPv6 ping IPv4 Traceroute and IPv6 Traceroute submenus. I searched on internet, I found some information about HP 1920 NPS configuration https://www.reddit.com/r/networking/comments/4tnyaj/aaanps_with_procurve_19101920/d5k64mm/

but it doesn't work for me. I did firmware upgrade (Switch software version: 5.20.99 Release 1117)

Is there anyone to manage this issue?

Soner.

Cannot log into new switch. Followed directions to a tee. Its not my first rodeo either.

Just got a J9984a, 1820-48g.  Brand new.  Setup a laptop with IP 192.168.1.2, 255.255.255.0.  Plugged directly into switch.

It looks like it connects, but it wont hit the login switch with 192.168.1.1

I did do a 15+ sec hard reset.  No avail.

Please advise.

HPE OC20 802.11ac (RW) Access Point performance issues

We deployed two customer sites with HPE OC20 devices. Both started to have performance issues with wireless with these new OC20 devices. Transfer speeds especially with SMB transfer from Windows servers is horrible. Usually 5GB file transfers takes about 440 seconds. With other AC series devices it takes only 120-150 seconds. We tried upgrading the firmware and same issue. Did not help, when looking at the Windows 10 data transfer screen it only transfer files at 5MB/s speed. We are having this same issue now with 9 OC20 devices that are in two different sites.

Anyone else having same issues? We have open case number with HPE also with this. We have tried different poe switches also, but same issue remains.
